Program Description:
PUERTO RICO - Hurricane Relief
Saturday, March 7 - Saturday, March 14, 2020

Send Relief is the relief arm of the North American Mission Board dedicated to provide relief in the midst of environmental disasters around the world. This organization partners with local ministries, non-profits, and churches to assist in rebuilding communities after natural disasters both immediately after they take place and many years after.  Through these partnerships, the ministry seeks to meet the social, emotional, spiritual, and physical needs of the community after experiencing the tragedy and loss following natural disasters.

Students will spend the week working in different communities of Puerto Rico that were most affected by Hurricane Maria.  Students can expect to assist in rebuilding and assist in construction related projects that are supervised by local organizations.  Students will spend their days in this work and then return together for presentations from community members about the effects of the Hurricane on various communities as well as engage in worship with other students involved in relief work that week.

Teams will travel via airplane and stay in with host organizations on mattresses or cots.  Students will need long pants, closed toed shoes, as well as t-shirts for the workday.

Wheaton students must be prepared to physically work during this trip. Volunteers will be working on construction projects of various types. These could be messy, physically challenging, or both. Wheaton students must possess the emotional stability to cope with stressful situations and have the flexibility to adapt to ambiguous situations and unmet expectations. You must understand the physical, mental, and emotional requirements of this trip and believe that you are a good fit before signing up.

COST OF TRIP: $950, including a $100 non-refundable deposit due at sign-up (deposit can be paid by cash or check.)
Once you sign-up, you are responsible for the full cost of the trip.

There are 16 spaces available (8 male and 8 female).

This trip is offered through BreakAway Ministry, a ministry of the Office of Christian Outreach, which is located at the North entrance to the Todd M. Beamer Student Center.
