Illness Policy for International Travel

(Updated March 2024)

In keeping with our practice of adhering as closely as possible to public health guidelines, we continue to strongly encourage all students and employees, including those traveling internationally, to be up-to-date with the COVID-19 vaccine/boosters, flu shots, and immunizations, if eligible.

In keeping with the Wheaton College campus policy regarding respiratory viruses (such as COVID, influenza, and RSV), should you become ill, please refrain from interacting with others until fever-free for 24 hours (without the use of fever reducing mediation) and feeling better, then take additional precautions for 5 more days by masking, distancing, and using enhanced hygiene practices. Testing is highly encouraged prior to working with vulnerable populations*.

*Vulnerable populations, as defined by the IRB and other sources, include: children, the elderly, individuals with disabilities, institutionalized individuals (such as hospital patients, prisoners, and residents of nursing homes or orphanages), individuals of low socio-economic status (given potential limited access to healthcare), and individuals with certain pre-existing medical conditions.
